The Calvin & Hobbes Quiz - Report

Set and conducted by : Vikram Keskar
Format : 40 question written quiz (20 questions with a Calvin & Hobbes theme, 20 gen questions)

Results:
1st : Aditya Gadre and Avaneendra Bhargav : 30.5 points
2nd : Kunal Sawardekar and Ranajeet Soman : 24 points
Newbie team : 17.5 points (names not available)

The quiz turned out to be only half C&H as the QM had difficulty finding enough questions. The questions were not C&H trivia but the many many pop-culture/philosophical references Watterson uses in the comic. There were quite a few philosophy related questions earlier on but with the QM's 'usual shtick' as he likes to call it, the cryptic clues were helpful in confirming guesses.
The other 20 questions were good old general quiz type. The quality of the questions was good and they were well framed.
There were numerous typos in the questions and one or two errors (Kunal had a field day pointing them out). The projector refused to be turned on (no pun here) and we had to shift to another room ten questions through the quiz which was slightly tedious. An enjoyable quiz that would have been more so with 'tech support' and a little more attention to detail.

I really liked this quiz - as Rana says the framing of the questions was excellent, and the QM's usual schtick (which I saw for the first time) made it a lot of fun to participate in (once you knew the answers :P ). It would have really helped if we'd had a working projector from the get-go, because as things were the first 10 questions were read out by the QM, which is a shame considering how much work seems to have gone into the slides.

What is the "usual shtick"? Explain with examples.

Could someone please post questions? Will help outstation guys like me :) .. BCQC had started a very nice practice of posting questions post-quizzes a while back. Seems to have tapered off now..

As pointed out by my friend with coloured (and, no doubt, Ashkenazi) friends, the usual schtick is to give cryptic clues to each answer in the title of the question slide.

I think BDFL's and Ayush' queries alike will be answered with the posting of the ppt on the BCQC Questions blog.

Mr Keskar, please do the needful.

I wanted to maintain the continuity of the blog, so was waiting for quizzes from quiz masters of july and august, but I won't any longer All the quizzes except those two will be published on the blog by this weekend.

Who are these Avaneendra and Aditya? I distinctly remember the winning team being Oboneendro and Odityo.

Obhoneendro, just create two placeholder entries for July and August and upload the quizzes once you get them.
